In 2018 MH Bland were the first company in Gibraltar to become a Dementia Friendly company and during the course of the year we have supported GADS in their mission to make the community more aware of Dementia – how it affects people and more importantly how the community and individuals can help those living with Dementia.
Our journey began in 2015 when GADS was chosen as one of the MHB chosen charities by the Doing Good Charity Committee. An excellent working relationship has grown over the years and our donations have helped with the development of the Dementia Day Care centre, purchased rucksacks and notebooks, a hoist, given by RCCI, being donated to Mount Alvenia and culminated in 2017 with the launch of the Calypso Tours, GADS awareness bus which helps promote the message of a more dementia friendly Gibraltar.
On the 5th May 2018, Dylan Trenado, a member of the MHB Marketing team, inspired by the charities work, set himself a target to walk around the Rock five times in one day with the aim of continuing to build on awareness campaign and in solidarity with those living with Dementia on a daily basis. With the support of our Dementia bus, other members of the MHB team and friends and family, Dylan completed his target in 7 hours and 40 minutes.
In September 2018 GADS launched their Memory Walk event, which consisted of walking round the Rock every Wednesday in September. The Calypso Tours GADS bus was on hand to support the walkers.
We are grateful to Daphne Alcantara and her team for all their efforts and allowing us to join them in their efforts to change the way people think, act and talk dementia.
