JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Electrical Fitter 
COMPANY: MH Bland Marine Services Ltd
DEPARTMENT: Maintenance
REPORTS TO: Workshop Manager, MHB Marine Services

PURPOSE:

To install, test, maintain/ repair electrical installation and wiring in accordance with regulations and specifications. Fits, assembles, installs, tests, commissions, maintain and repairs electrical systems and equipment.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance Duties

  • Correctly use and maintain the tools of the trade including power tools, test equipment and measuring instruments.
  • Install all type of commonly used wiring and wiring accessories
  • Install electrical equipment such as motor starters, controllers, switchgears, switchboard, busbars, transformers and control panels
  • Locate and repair faults in electrical installations and
  • Identify different types of cables and wires
  • Carry out mechanical fitting and assembling works relevant to heavy current equipment and machine or fabricate parts for such equipment
  • Install meters, instruments, relays and protection equipment
  • Read and interpret simple electrical specifications, wiring and circuit diagrams and building plans
  • Inspect, test, commission and maintain electrical installation and equipment
  • Use safety equipment and protective devices/equipment
  •  Correctly instruct, supervise and transfer skill to any apprentice and semi-skilled worker assigned to him to ensure safety and quality of work

In addition to the above, the jobholder will be required to perform other duties which may be assigned by the company from time to time.

A clear understanding of the Quality Manuals and Work Instructions is essential. At all times, the jobholder should operate in the interests of the company and its customers.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Engineering calculations associated with current carrying capacity of cables, wires, fuses and other circuit protective devices
  • Single and three-phase circuits, earth circuits, insulating and conducting materials, switch fuses and isolator
  • Electrical wiring diagrams, symbols, engineering drawings and layout drawings for electrical systems
  • Use of test equipment and measuring instruments
  • Basic workshop practice, engineering materials, conduit and wiring
  • Electric motors, starting methods and control equipment
  • Procedures for inspection, testing and certification of electrical fixed installations
  • Industrial hazards, safety and health precautions and environmental concerns
  • Installation practice and regulations/relevant codes of practice
  • Relevant ordinances and regulations
  • MUST be assertive, decisive, and able to take immediate action when necessary
